Zaki Nassif: A dedication

Zaki Nassif one of the great names who created the Lebanese music. His specialty was the Folklore, Which is shown in his songs, a real description of everyday Lebanese lifestyle.

He also succeeded in Classical music, where he composed the best of romance & national songs.

Stars of Lebanon tried to bring Mr. Zaki to Canada, for his dedication, but due to health problems it was impossible.

April 1st 1995 was the date of the dedication to "Zaki Nassif", at the High School of Commerce theatre, featuring Andre Ibrahim, Miriam Khalil, Al Arz Group, Ashtar Group, Stars of Lebanon Choir, and an orchestra of 20 musicians, conducted by Rabih Yazbeck.

All The proceeds were donated to "The International Committee Of Safe Guarding The Cedars Of Lebanon" as presented by Mrs. Raghida Jaber, wife of his Excellency the Ambassador of Lebanon.

There were many poets dedicated to Zaki Nassif by Fadi Khoury, Shalita Matar, Raymond Sader, Rida Monsour, Kamal Dib, Najib Bejjani, Souad Hanna, Fawaz Mahfouz, Issam Addi. The Master of ceremonies was Iskandar El Khoury, direction by Jihad Absi, and sound technicians John Dooher & George Haddad.

تكريم زكي ناصيف

زكي ناصيف من كبار مؤسسي الفن اللبناني, وقد تميزت الحانه بنكهة فولكلورية أصيلة, تطابقت فيها مع إيقاعات الحياة اليومية الجبلية. إضافة الى براعته في الموسيقى الكلاسيكية أيضا, فقد كتب ولحن أجمل ألأغاني الرومانسية والكلاسيكية والوطنية والشعبية.

حاولت فرقة نجوم لبنان, أن تحضر الفنان زكي ناصيف الى كندا, ولكنه تمنع بسبب وضعه الصحي أنذاك, ولكنه قبل بإقامة التكريم وأشرف شخصيا على تفاصيله.

تم تكريم زكي ناصيف في 1 نيسان 1995 , على مسرح High School of Commerce theatre أحياه الفنان اندريه ابراهيم, ميريم خليل, فرقة ألأرز الفنية, فرقة عشتار الفنية, خورس فرقة نجوم لبنان, بمشاركة 20 موسيقي بقيادة ربيع يزبك. عاد ريع التكريم الى " اللجنة العالمية للمحافظة على أرز لبنان" ممثلة بعقيلة سفير لبنان في كندا السيدة راغدة جابر.

شارك الكثير من الشعراء في كتابة كلمات قيمة للحفل منهم, فادي خوري, شليطا مطر, ريمون صادر, رضا منصور, كمال ديب, نجيب بجاني, سعاد حنا, فواز محفوظ, عصام عدّي. قدم الحفل أسكندر الخوري, وكان فنيا وتقنيا من إخراج جهاد عبسي, نفذ الصوت جون دوهر وجورج حداد.

The Biography of Zaki Nassif

Zaki Nassif was born on July 4, 1918 in the "Al Shahla" district, in the town of Mashghara, West-Bekka Lebanon. His parents are Shaker Nassif Ibrahim and Sophia Ibrahim. He is the youngest of three brothers, Toufiq, Rafiq, Shafiq and two sisters Zakia and Najiba.

The journey of Zaki Nassif in the world of Music and Art:

Zaki Nassif was inspired by music at the early age of six. The greatest influence on him was Sheikh Salamah Al Hijazi, a musical composer. Sheikh Al Hijazi was considered among the best vocalists in Egypt for reciting verses from the Qur'an. Nassif's first musical composition was at the age of twelve, when he composed a play in his village. His aptitude for learning led him to Beirut, where he studied liturgical music at the school of Deir El Moukhalis. Simultaneously, he furthered his study of music at the Institute of Laiek.

For health reasons he gave up music for two years. He then returned in 1936 to his studies. He enrolled into the American University of Beirut, Music Institute, where he studied piano and took vocal lessons. Between the years of 1939 to 1943 Zaki Nassif put his music on hold to help his father in the family business. After returning, he studied under the instruction of French composer Bertrand Roberts. Along with this apprenticeship Zaki Nassif joined Radio Lebanon Orchestra, when he played the Cello. During that time he was introduced to the symphonies of Beethoven and Mozart, which enriched his knowledge of classical music.

After finishing his studies in 1953, Zaki Nassif participated in the following events:

• He was a member of the music department of the "Shark Al Adna" Radio Station along with the Rahabani Brothers, Fairouz, Sabri Sherief and Toufiq El Basha.
• He participated as composer in the annual Baalbek Festivals in 1957, 1959, 1964 and 1974.
• The Anwar Group, which Zaki Nassif was one of its founders, represented Lebanon outstandingly, in many countries such as Cyprus 1960, Paris 1961, Germany 1962 and Australia 1963.
• He was a member of the judging committee on the Lebanese "Studio El Fan" television show in 1974, 1980, 1988 and 1992. This show is considered the stepping-stone to stardom for most of the new artists.
• Nassif composed many pieces for Caracalla and Fahd Al Abdallah dance groups and other plays such as "Youssef Beik Karam" and "Al Mir Bashir". He is a professor of musicology at the Lebanese National Music Conservatory and the University of the Holy Spirit in Jounieh.
• His most recent works were songs by the well-known Lebanese singer Fairouz.
• Zaki Nassif has composed many songs for famous Lebanese artists from old and new generations.

He surely charmed us with his beautiful melodies for many years; he will definitely be missed by all.

زكي ناصيف أرزة خالدة

أرز لبنان ما أعلاه وما أبهاه وما أقواه, هذا الشامخ أبدا بأباء والصامد بعنفوان, القادر على مجاراة الزمان, لا يرضى بغير الأعالي سكنا له ولا يأبه بعاصفة أو ريح فأنزله الناس منزلة التكريم وقيل فيه لأجمل المنثور وأروع المنظوم, وهكذا أنت يا فناننا العظيم أرزة خالدة بعطائك الكبير وفنك الراقي.

أنت كما وصفك فخامة رئيس الجمهورية اللبنانية الأستاذ الياس الهراوي حين قلدك في العام 1992 وسام الأرز من رتبة كومندور, تقديرا لعطاءاتك في إغناء التراث الموسيقي اللبناني إذ قال: أنك وعيت التراث في معناه الفولكلوري, ولحنت من ضمن الإطار وخرجت من نبض الأصالة اللبنانية لتعرفها الى المحيط, والتقى في موسيقاك الشرق والغرب, وارتسم على ألحانك نبض الدبكة اللبنانية.

حقا... أنك يا زكي ناصيف فنان عظيم أعطى لبنان والعالم العربي معنى جديدا للفن والتراث والأصالة, ولأننا نؤمن كما تؤمن بأن الفن إرتقاء لنفسيات الشعوب, نتمنى أن يحقق لك الله حلمك بأن ترى شبابنا يتثقف ثقافة موسيقية صحيحة تساعده على التمييز بين ما هو رديء, وما أكثره في أيامنا هذه, وبين ما هو جيد يسمو به وينقذه من ضياع طابعه القومي وفقدان تمسكه بالجذور.

ألف تحية لك, مع تحية شكر وتقدير لفرقة نجوم لبنان, وتلميذك الوفي الذي يعتبرك مثله الأعلى, الفنان أندريه إبراهيم, لقيامهما بمبادرتين كبيرتين: حفل التكريم هذا ودعم لجنة ألأرز لإحياء " غابة أرز مغتربي كندا " في جاج, قضاء جبيل, لبنان.

أحبك يا أستاذي العزيز " زكي ناصيف "

لأن أصوات شبان وشابات بلدتي مشغرة, وإيقاع دبكاتهم الهادرة, في ليالي الصيف المقمرة, وهم يرددون أغانيك الساحرة, لا تزال في مخيلتي, ولأنها كانت تعطر نسيم تلك المسيات وتفرح قلوب السامعين.

كنت يومها صغيرا لا أعي أهمية اللحن ولا أفهم معنى الكلمة, لكنني كنت أسمع تلك الأصوات الجبلية متناسقة ومتىلفة, تعبر عن بهجة غريبة في عيونهم وعن فرح كبير في دبكاتهم, وعن إلفة ومحبة في حياتهم وسهراتهم.

يوما بعد يوم, أخذ ذلك العالم الموسيقي يجذبني أكثر فأكثر, فقد رأيت فيه التآلف المتناسق ما بين عادات قرانا اللبنانية القديمة, وبين النغمة والتطور الموسيقي الحديث التوزيع, وقد شكلت نمطا مختلفا جديدا في لبنان, وهو وضع الموسيقى اللبنانية الفولكلورية أو التراثية في إطار عالمي. وفي نفس الوقت دون المس بالتراث والتقاليد, بل بالعكس اتت معبرة أدق التعبير عن هذا التراث, من حيث النغمة والكلمة, والإيقاع, لدرجة تصوير هذا التراث بنغمات موسيقية مطابقة لطبيعته.

كثرة إقترابي من هذا العالم, جعلني اتأثر به أكثر, وكلما مرت ألأيام كلما تجدد حبي لزكي ناصيف, حبي لشخصه أولا كوننا أنسباء, ولأنه حنون, متواضع , غني الأخلاق وفقير التكبر, وحبي لفنه ثانيا, فأغنياته تنسى ان تكبر,وألحانه سلام ورضى, قناعة وبراءة وعنفوان عطاء وتضحية, يشتعل الوطن في عروقنا ونحن نستعيد عمرنا وزكرياتنا في " طلوا حبابنا " " درب الغزلان " " فوق جبالنا " تلك الأغاني الطالعة من زمن الحنين, وقاع الزكريات, أغاني تنبش في داخلنا تلك البيوت اللامنسية, وهذه الألحان هي ظلال من أرض لبنان, وحلاوة من كرومه, وهواء من أنسامه, وتراب من حقوله, وثلج من جباله وتلاله, وممكن جدا أنني لا أملك رؤية الله وملائكته, ولكنك عندما ترنم أسمعها ترتل معك ألحانا سماوية.

اليوم نحتفل بعبق الحانك المخملية, ونكرم مسيرتك الفنية التي ساهمت مع عدد وفير من كبار الفنانين, في تأسيس الطريق للفن اللبناني, وبصفتي فنان لبناني, أقدرك يا زكي اللحنو على عطائك الفني اللامتناهي, على مدى اكثر من نصف قرن, ولبنان حقا يفاخر بك, وشئنا أم ابينا إن كان هذا الزمن, زمن موسيقى صحيحة أم لا, أو زمن إعتراف بمن مروا قبلنا أم لا, فمن لا يعرف ماضيه لا يدرك مستقبله, وأنت دائما كنت ولا تزال رائد تلك الحركة, وقد مهدت الطريق امامنا, أطال الله بعمرك واسمعنا الكثير من ألحانك الندية يا عراب الفولكلور.
